who knows where the glue goes?....

Post by edoh »

still trying to get the dead as a dodometer going.......
opened up the dash -
Image
there it sits
Image
driven by 'a small plastic worm drive' - so i've heard -
the 2 small black plastic wheels directly behind it?
can just see them behind the spring in photo below - with odo button pressed in -
Image
also has these white cogs at the top -
Image
have heard that you can apply a spot of superglue on the end of a pin to stop the 'cog spinning on the spindle' -
any idea where that might be on the photos above?
cheers

In addition to itchyfeets excellent write-up, I've tried this method from ajsimmo and mines working fine. Here's a link to the thread (2nd from bottom of last page):

Heads up = I did that to fix mine. Then I tested it by connecting the main drive input to my cordless drill via a bit of "whittled" down dowelling. Then, when I pulled the drill trigger the whole speedo leapt out of my hand onto a pile of stuff on the floor and wrecked the tiny hair spring that returns the needle to zero,

One "pre owned" speedo later I was back in business,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, For a couple of hundred miles, now the replacement is doing the same thing   And just when I wanted to check MPG with my new "closed loop" LPG upgrade

The annoying thing was that I knew I had fixed the first one and did not really need to test it

Our Scirocco one has the same issue = I will be an expert at this soon ;)
