Paulchen bike rack fitting
I have a spare wheel carrier on the back of the van, but would like to fit my bike rack as additional storage not necessarily for bikes.
The rack is to big or the spare wheel is to far over to have both fitted on, how have other people done this I.e cut the rack down............etc
Has anyone for pics or advice
Cheers

Re: Paulchen bike rack fitting
Sorry to sound dense but you cut a section out the middle?

Mine fits both spare wheel carrier and paulchen - no cutting. Is the older Paulchen (lower bolts to door, not clasped around lower of door) and an Ortec wheel carrier..

Re: Paulchen bike rack fitting
I've no idea the make of my carrier but if I wanted to fit the carrier the bottom mount covers the rear boot lock.
The tyre covers the drop down by amount 2 inches

Cut a section out, plug and weld, I did Toms when I owned the van.

I have a vw carrier and a paulchen, both fit with no cutting. The only thing you have to is when putting the tray up or down on the paulchen is to open the tyre carrier as the tray catches the tyre. With a 14 or 15" wheel you probably wouldn't have to do that. I have the later paulchen that doesn't bolt through the tailgate

Looking at it I have the same system as Tom from the pic further up so cutting and chopping is the way forward.
Thanks all

Here is mine though you now don't need the back of a fridge bolted to your van for extra storage if you have a spare wheel carrier

I had to shorten the the lower mounting brackets because once it was loaded up the outer one would drop below the tailgate and become loose. I chopped out about 20mm and welded it back together.
I have since added chequer plate to the lower section. It makes it much more useful. Credit to Jed there.

Re: Paulchen bike rack fitting
I made mine somewhat narrower to fit between the two sparewheel carriers. I moved the tray up so it fits just above the wheels. I'm still able to see stuff from my rearview mirror.
