Indicators packed up - do I have a dodgy ticker?

Post by voodoopenguin »

On the way home the indicators stopped working. The dash light comes on but doesn't flash, I was hoping that I could just turn them on and off manually to get me out of trouble but on checking the indicators don't work. Would that be the flasher unit and if so where do I find it?

Thanks in advance.

As yours is an 84, don't assume that because fuses look intact, that they are. Only needs a hairline crack to cause loss of indicators. Flip them out and check them very carefully.

First checked that the hazard warning lights worked and they did then took all fuses out in turn to check (no idea which one was which!) they were OK and cleaned the contacts and hurrah, the indicators are back.

Still don't know where the flasher relay is but I guess if I need to know I can just follow the ticking noise.

Fuse box has no cover and looks a bit mangy so it might be in order to do some work on that in the future although my usual "don't touch if it's working" policy for the rest of the van has been successful for over a year now!

Cheers
