Leak near oil filter in 1988 1.6tdi

Post by scottyh56 »

Hello all
I am pleased to say first visit for a long while partly because I am a bit of an amateur at this and partly because things have been going smoothly for a while.
I have been trying to trace a slow coolant leak and in doing this I noticed the following

Image

That's the oil filter on the right. Is that the oil cooler that it attaches to? You can see oil leaking beneath that nut (saw a drip from the nut) which I guess I could try to tighten but it appears to be securing some electrical device which is loosing its rubber cover (left of pic below the copper pipe) and that cover does not want to seem to go back on.

I wonder if someone could enlighten as to what I am dealing with and any action I should take other than trying to tighten that nut.....

Thanks

Scott

Thats a oil pressure sender, you could try to nip it up.. I'd probably undo it first and check there is a copper washer in there then do it back up
Time is a drug. Too much of it kills you

Thanks - now I can search the web using useful words!!!

For example, this looked potentially useful http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.p ... -sensor%29" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Cheers, Scott
