It must still be spring, the sap is clearly up in the old country!

Ok calm down you lot, returning to the onboard air... Trying to find a home for the reservoir while waiting for USPS and Il Postino, I could have fitted it behind the n/s/r lamp as it's 200mm dia and would just squeak in there but that's where the oil cooler is going (all credit to 10cent for a superb design concept) so where to put it?

Here's a happy occurrence:

Practically made for the space :D I might just see if I can get the Audi cradle bracket from the Allroad breakers and bolt that direct onto the exhaust sheild. I'm not worried about the engine bay heat as the reservoir is rated more than high enough for the job:

Image

16 bar?!!! That's about 240 psi  I don't think I'll be running it that high, 120 psi will be more than enough to buffer the compressor.

Now to dismantle the old home-brew compressor for the pump, adjustable pressure switch, blow-off safety valve etc (it's currently hiding in the back of the garage) so there will be a nice single-phase Brooke Gryphon motor going spare soon, about 1hp iirc...

I've never really trusted this thing, I didn't build it and I've only ever run it up once to 100psi (hiding behind a brick wall!) so it got the chop.

Image

Hand painted part number on the compressor? But of course... the evidence was in a bag stuffed under the motor!

Image

It was probably from an old Rolls Shadow 1 or 2, once bolted to one side of that magnificent V8. It was pretty well the only aircon compressor available when fitted to luxury late 60's and early 70's cars like Jaguar, Aston Martin and Rolls Royce. Rover also used it on the P6B, but it was always a very rare option.
It was quite common in the US however, good job I've got a contact who regularly ships the odd container-load

I seem to have got somewhere with the compressor mounting on a spare engine (have since worked out a passable belt tensioning arrangement)

Image

Can't wait to get this finished and working. Airing down tyres will be a viable option, along with carrying a windy gun for wheel swapping :D
