Should the syncro sub-forum have an amnesty for syncro-specific "parts wanted" requests?

Syncro-specific wanted ads - NEW 3rd option, re-vote allowed

Post by silverbullet »

Recent experiences with a wanted that evolved into a tech discussion (as they so often do) and then got moved, have left me thinking that maybe we could/should have an amnesty for syncro-specific wanteds i.e. not getting lost in the general melee of "I need a door handle/wheel nut/lightbulb" etc.

What do you lot think, given how few of us there are and how specific our needs?

Or to put it another way: if it's a part that was only fitted to a syncro, you can put your wanted request here and not in the general wanteds.
 Or even have syncro parts wanted sticky? Respond by pm only, poster deletes when part found?

Early days for the votes, but this suggests to me that there's a desire for a classifieds section within syncro, including "for sale" as well as "wanted"

Any thoughts?

Hardly an unbiased poll. You can practically guarantee that most of the votes will be for option 1.What next, different for sale/wanted sections for westy, autohomes, dehler specific parts. :) Theres nothing wrong with the way things are now.The odd clitch now and then is bound to happen, thats life.

Yes, I think R0B's right, a foregone conclusion, like a lot of local council and govt polls... it's not just about who says Yes, it's those who don't say No...

That's what R0B's saying I think... we aren't asking the 10,000 (or so :) ) non-syncro owners what they think

We're part of a bigger community - always have been - when I came along one fine day many years ago, there wasn't even a Syncro forum.. hard to believe  I remember Aidan being about the first to respond to a plea... Heeelp, I need to find another gearbox, mine's bust, and he helped point me to a seller. Also remember Simon TooManyToys helping all those years ago, amongst others

I digresss...

Would just flagging the FOR SALE: or WANTED: up as SYNCRO perhaps do it? That is a BOLD SYNCRO PARTS prefix or subfix ?

Remember: R0B, Mark (Tickled), Lloyd and Kathy have, as Mods, to monitor a helluva lot of forums and sub-forums - they do a fantastic job and we have a lot of discrete forums now, what with the extension of the Tech sections into so many separate sub-forums etc...

Do we want countless sub and sub-sub forums.. ?

Over....

I subscibe to putting any peculiarity, Syncro, SA, Dehler, whatever, as part of the title of any post, be it Wanted, For Sale, or Help!. That way it is visible to the masses and viewable by whoever wants to. Who knows, that unobtainable Syncro only giggle pin may be sitting in the garage of a non-Syncro forum reader.

I sort of agree that a clear title would help but you have to be looking to see the title as it were and perhaps a significant amount of Syncro owners don't venture out that often. So either we accept this and our audience is limited or we cater for this ( which I believe Ian is suggesting)

Here's an example ..... Some time ago I put a brand new NOS set of Syncro 14" handbrake cables in the swaps / trade forum. Basically they came to me FOC and I thought it would be good to share the syncro love as it were. As it turned out they went to a very good home and I traded them for that most valuable of commodities .... Knowledge. However I couldn't help thinking at the time that only ONE Syncro owner was interested in them as only one person got involved. I reckon if the add was in the Syncro section I am sure it would have garnered a broader selection of offers.

At the end of the day most people link across from the Syncro section to their add so why not allow a direct post. Seems like a simple request or am I missing something ?

Don't shoot the messenger! I'm not looking to make any more work for anyone or suggest that subdivisions are a good idea, rather I was just highlighting what a peculiar/particular lot syncro owners can be and as Jes observes, sometimes the classifieds don't always work well when the odds are stacked against the small ratio of membership numbers when compared to 2wd. That and the fact that some of us rarely look beyond the bounds of this section. How many times have you read "For those of you who don't usually look at ..." ?
Ok so most of us have a reasonable idea of where to find this or that elusive part, but in times of crisis (minor and beyond) it would be nice to KNOW that a syncro-specific wanted can be posted up direct without it getting moved because that's what the rules state (such as they are)
Then again, if it's within syncro and only of interest to syncro owners, why should it be a surprise that the majority have voted in favour? It's self-serving, but that's the whole point.
I has to be exclusive, otherwise posting up for "I need a couple of rear diff actuator elbows" or "Fuel filler neck rusted though" is going to get buried in the tide of frequent requests for universal parts.
How do the Gypsy lot cope? They have their own forum...but that's not really where we want to be going with this discussion. It's nice here :ok

That's ture it is, homely :)
It's been suggested before and we know that there's far too much in common to make it anything other than that.. a suggestion

My take on it is if there is only one for sale and one wanted section then everyone has to go there and then you get interesting cross pollination, most parts are interchangeable with 2wd and well worded ad title and description saves any confusion
I know that plenty of the syncro boys don't ever read any other sub forum and so miss out on a lot of interesting and or informative stuff, 'how do you know that' I am often asked by other syncro peeps, answer because I read it in technical bodywork, or Alt engines, or wanted - I don't read every sub forum myself but I do read probably 6 or 7 of them every day, that's how I keep up generally

still looking for a lhd syncro power steering front low pressure pipe if anyone missed my post in wanted
