Rear drum/hub puller. Which one to buy?

Post by syncropatrick »

I've got one brake drum stuck on and can't get it off. Loosened handbrake, penetration spray everywhere, brake adjuster inside frozen solid, wooden mallet bashed all way round drum, tried prizing off with screw drivers. No joy. Other came off eventually after 3 days of on'n'off wrangling.
Bought this hub puller

but the hub and 46mm nut are too big for it to fit over. Can anyone recommend a hub puller which has a big enough internal diameter for our vans?

I use a 2lb lump hammer. Not had one that refused being introduced to that. You do need ear defenders though. Still, I guess there has to be at least one hub that won't budge. Just not met one so far.

:ok
After some more hammering I eventually got the 2nd drum off. Very corroded inside. Will the hub be as sticky? Not got a 46mm socket here until the weekend.

46mm socket well worth owning, or at least a shared one in the local community. I have one here in Cov that everyone seems to borrow. Its fine with me.

Sometimes better to remove hub with drum attached then separate off van. A heavy wooden maul makes a nicer big hitty thing than a steel club hammer. Personally I hate leaving dings..

Thanks all for replies. So does no one use a hub puller then, just judicious walloping?
