Save my rev counter from the bin!

Any pointers for wiring a rev counter greatly received! I've got a +ve from the ignition, ground on to another ground, illumination from the lights switch, and signal from ....

Tried the coil -ve with no luck
Tried the coil +ve with no luck
Tried the coil feed to the dizzy. Rev counter worked but engine wouldn't fire.


There has been much swearing
1986 1.9 Petrol DG, VT20 Auto-Sleeper ... 18" Sub Woofer in the back.

I think you will find pin 9 of the dash connector is rev counter signal
