The components of the door windows are so outrageously expensive they seem to be way more than the actual door itself. Its an 80/90 gripe that one. Frustratingly its difficult to find 'equivalents' of any of them anywhere although felt channels could be sourced by sealsdirect or similar - if there are any savings to be had going that route. Have a nose though.

the outerseal is splitting/bubbling with rust and just generally breaking up if I rub it when it is wet black streaks run off it,want to tidy the windows up and stop water getting inside, the custom and commercial website states the seals are from OEM

yes that means they were made by the same company that made them for vw , it dont mean these are exactly the ones supplied to vw and having the vw part number on them.Huge difference imho.
in some instances its not that critical ,
i take it you have fixed 1/4 lihght s? if so then the metal glazing bar is secured on the door panal with a 6mm screw and at the top, peel the seal away and you will see a small pozi scew.
the 1/4 rubber and such often sticks having been in there for years, but they do come out and they do take a bit of stick......
oh and I do buy seals from them as well, the factory fit side window ones i got were very good
