Eber What's missing? is it worth replacing?

Post by badgerfax »

Hello Just bought the van its a 1984 petrol westy. I have a missing part from the heating system and I can only assume that its the most expensive bit to replace

Don't know why its not there but we could have done with it working a few nights ago :!:
The fuel lines have been replaced and there was a t piece and what looked like a filter with 2 wires going into it left hanging under the van disconnected

I have this
Image

And this box underneath
Image

But what's supposed to go here?
Image

Not sure what part I would need to get system up and running.
Twist my nipple nuts and send me to Alaska.

Heater itself.

Battery charger, usually, but it looks like you're missing some ducting for the warm air.

That wiring should go to the ecu. One of the air ducts has been blocked off with tape. Have a look at the box underneath where the exhaust pipe goes if it is connected there the heater is still inside.

Had a look today and looks like the heaters there.

This thing was left dangling so i removed it. Is it a pump? has petrol feed and 2 wires going into it.

Could do with some info on the battery charger too. Don't see why these bits were removed, seems bonkers to me :!:

Going by what state it is in now it was obviously disconnected for a reason - IF the heater itself is in working order you need a minimum of the ecu - between £50 and £150 on ebay s/h, £200 - £300 new if found. Full strip down and service would be needed. That pump would need testing also. At the end of it all you may get a working heater - it all depends upon what was wrong originally.

The guy I bought the van from said the previous owner didn't use it? Seems odd that both the ecu and charger were removed.

Not sure if its because space was needed in the under bed locker this has 2 hasp and staples attached so it could be locked.

Would any ecu do or do I have to look for a specific petrol one :?:

JJJackson has just bought Trucker's old d2l - it may be worth pm-ing him to see if he needs the ecu. You should have a 6 socket plug, a 2 socket plug and a single socket one for the ecu - you appear to have more than that lying there! It is the same ecu for diesel and petrol. There are no b2l parts listed in the 2012 Eberspächer price list. They are rare and ancient. Failing that put up in the wanted.

Thank oldie, I'll give that a try. The additional wires might go to a missing battery charger according to AdrianC.

Yep, that's the ludicrously vulnerable Eber pump.

Incorrect mounting then - not the pump's fault!

Doesn't look like it's changed since it left Westfalia. The setup's identical to that pic.

The guy had the fuel tank and lines replaced. I discovered this bypassed T piece & pump loosely cable tied and dangling under the van & thought it would be best if I removed it seeing as if I was to get it going again i'd replace the fuel line to the heater anyway.

Incidentally I was speaking to someone today who thought that petrol ebers were dangerous and I should go for a propex linked to the LPG tank.

Lots to consider methinks
