RM123 fridge - do i have to connect the gas?

This is probably a stupid question but here goes!!

I am just about to replace our old rm122 fridge (it has never worked whilst we have had it!) with a rm123 but i really am a bit paranoid about running the fridge on gas. Does it have to be connected to the gas to work? Just checking that it will still work if just running off 12v and 240v and that there isn't a weird thing where it has to be connected to the gas too before it will work.

Any ideas before i fork out £400?

Yes, new one costs £370!

Not sure how long the leisure battery lasts if you only use that though? Some seem to say it only lasts a few hours before it drains your battery in which case we would have to use gas.

If not we'll go for a compressor fridge but it is a bit too deep to fit in our van!

Does anyone have a waeco cr50 and know if the 490mm depth is including the pipes, etc sticking out of the back or is that depth all solid frame?

Hi , the fridge should only really be used on 12v when driving ,It will flatten your battery really quickly . 12v when driving and either mains hook up or gas on site if no electic available. The gas does work really well though ...I turn my gas off at night anyway ( paranoid) but the fridge stays cold overnight anyway.

Why not gas? My fridge (RM123) gets exceptionally cold and works better on gas. Can you put a price on a nice cold beer?
If you are paranoid about leaks then as you are in Sussex, I would give Autogas a ring. Based in Littlehampton. They serviced my LPg tank and even gave me a lift and picked me up from the beach while they worked on my camper. Nice people too. Hope that helps

I can certainly understand the apprehension, but it does seem an odd move to buy a three-way fridge then not use the gas side - might as well just go for an electric-only and do the mods.

As for 12v - never mind the "should we? How long?" - unless somebody's played around with the electrics, it won't do anything on 12v unless the alternator's giving out charging voltage. It'll cut out as soon as the engine stops. It's a 75w element, IIRC, so a 90Ah leisure battery will go from 100% to utterly absolutely pancake in 10hrs, theoretically - except it'll stop doing anything useful long before then.

i have an old rm122 fridge(over 25 years old) and was paranoid as hell first couple of times using it but as said works brilliantly on gas.
as long as you check and leak test connections from bottle to fridge thoroughly and have air flow from floor to side vent with a brand spanking new fridge there really is nothing to to be concerned about, thats why they cost so much to by new!!
