Happy days and test observations

Post by jebiga41 »

The camper flew through the DOE (Irish MOT) today :D
just a few observations thought I'd share with you,
the inspector was v impressed with
The handbrake and brakes in general which I would attribute to the rear disc conversion supplied and researched by Ian and Neil
The suspension set up which is Lidl springs new 16" front shocks and original rear shocks with extenders and front end with brickwerks poly bushes.

I also asked him about engine temp as was quite concerned the Aaz might be running cold with the chargecooler and has a non turbo pump on her at the moment (needle sits halfway between the diode and white) also has a Brickwerks oil cooler however the oil temp was 80 degrees C which he said was ok

He also informed me that the van comes in at 2300 kgs which is 100 kilos off the gross vehicle weight 2400kg this is with the factory hightop, 15" Mefros with BFG MTs and a spare on the back a highlift jack a box of tools a Westy interior minus the fridge, a fiamma F45, a half tank of diesel and the inspector, a light box of spares a deep cycle battery (35kg) and another starter battery onboard but no water.

That's too close for my liking. One more person = 75kg. Other half the tank of diesel = 30kg. Tank of water = 15kg. A fairly modest bag of clothes = 10kg.

Total = 130kg = 30kg overloaded. It's not much, but it's more than enough to get you into trouble with Mr Plod in the unlikely event he checks.

The VIN plate gives the GVW for your van.

You do! You got an instruction manual with the van with no name!

But you have uprated springs, so shouldn't be a problem ? I guess you just need to change it on the log book some how ?

Springs have nothing to do with the GVW of a vehicle! The manufacturer sets the GVW when they stamp the plate and register the design of the vehicle.

I suppose one needs to be careful what you put into and on your Syncro ....

Mine trips out at almost 1700 kgs. Mefros and BFG M/T are at least 12 kgs each heavier than standard and all that furniture and other stuff you dont need ......
