Bit left over - identify please

I have just finished replacing the gearbox, after an excellent rebuild, by Aidan, on my 1982 water-cooled camper. Due to illness and and the weather it is over a year since I removed it. I have a bit left over which looks important but I can not see where it fits. Has anybody an idea? It is 220mm long.

slave cylinder support strut, one end to the slave cylinder bracket, one end bolts to the gearbox case, it is important, without it the slave cylinder bracket can become stressed and crack and break

Thanks a lot. It is obvious now and explains why I had no bolts left over.
