Electric fuel pump on 1.9DG

Post by smashyvan »

Hi
Owned current van 1.9 DG for 7-8 years and almost every fault I have had has been fuel related - dirt or fuel pump. Am now on 3rd (GSF) pump after 2nd fell apart en route to Swiss hols last year (replaced pushrod last year too) , had blocked jets on way back even though fuel filter changed yearly and inlet cone filter checked regularly.
For peace of mind i have now replaced the fuel tank and from the state of the inside surfaces - pitted / corroded this may improve things.

I also suffer from having to crank the engine for ages after leaving it parked up for a while, at this years spring start up I had to resort to sucking the fuel up the pipe to try to prime things as nothing coming out of (disconnected) carb inlet pipe. I have checked the pump by blowing and sucking and finally got it to start ok (filter housing shows a trickle of fuel thru filter element) - i am just fed up with emptying everything out the boot to do this and am considering replacing mech pump with electric pump, Brickwerks sell electric pump for Fuel injected vans is this suitable or maybe a Facit pump.
Now I know some peeps say factory fitted is best but is this sensible / has anyone done this??

Facet Posiflow 1.5-4 psi work well without the need for a fuel pressure regulator.
