Grinding when cornering

Hi All
We have a grinding noise when we turn right or go round roundabouts from the rear wheel. We have recently had our wheel bearings and back plates replaced and were told by the garage it would eventually stop as it was rust rubbing on the new back plates.
We have probably done about 300 miles since we picked it up from the garage.
Is this normal???

If you take the drum off, you should see where there's been any rubbing. Check that the wheel bearing's adjusted properly, and there's not much play in it. If it's a bit loose, the drum might well be rubbing on the backplate or shoes when there's cornering forces on the wheel.

It does beg the question why they didn't clean any scale off the drums, if there was so much there. Quick and easy to do - just get a blunt wood chisel, and scrape away at the edges.

It's had new back plates and bearings on both rear wheels.

So if it's all new what rust is it that's rubbing?

Well we have
potential loose hub nuts
bent new backplates
or as said there is always a good build up of hard rust on th ridge at the rear of the drum, i usually tap them round with a small knocking stick

I reckon if you paid something like ) £300-+ to have this done it should get sorted by your garage. If it were my own work I would check to see what is rubbing /grinding by checking the things suggested above. I wonder if they know quite how very tight the rear hub nut needs to be tightened up? Can't recall exactly but check- something like 400ft/lbs I think- but check! If not tight enough you will get Rubin'

oh aye it will rub ok ,rub rub rub rub/scrape,rub scrape clickety knock.thrump screetch as the hub and wheel make a break for freedom

I've had this exact thing and it was a (fractionally) loose rear hub nut.

It's had new back plates and bearings on both rear wheels.

New rear bearings aren't necessarily correctly adjusted rear bearings.

Well no, with rear bearings you can have a slightly ovalled bearing housing which means even a new bearing won't take up the play. Theres no adjustment there. Everything should be a good fit, in good condition and nut done up f-tight.
