accelerator cable

Post by jeffdub »

Morning everyone , I went to start my van this morning, pressed the accelerator pedal to engage the auto choke and the pedal went straight to the floor and stayed there ! I had a quick look and the cable's connected at the pedal but slack, is this going to be a pain to get a new one or fix as its an auto box ? Thanks jeff

I fitted one a while back. Not difficult, fasten the new one to the old one to pull it through. Mine is 4 speed manual, but I doubt that makes it any easier or harder to do. Took me 1/2 an hour (at the side of the road). Just a bit fiddly reaching / seeing up to where it joins onto the peddle. A torch helps.

JK have them too. You need to order the right one as they are different for T3/T25s including engine type and lhd/rhd type. Check this out carefully.

cable arrived today so off I went to fit it, problem time ! mine being an auto has a bar from the accelerator which runs to a lever that sits on the side of the gearbox , which I assume is something to do with the kickdown ? on that lever there's a round nipple which the end of the cable pushes onto , the same type of fitting as the shocks on a tailgate, well mine decided to snap off ! , also my old cable ran through a rubber/plastic tube from the box to the pedal and that is firmly rusted in place at the gearbox end, should I cut the sheath on the new one off and feed the new cable through it ? thanks in advance jeff
