jx head retorque

Hi all coming up to 800 miles after head gasket replacement do you retorque .read on some treads you do and some you dont cheers.

Yes you have to retighten the head, mine was done after 1000km.
It's not retorqued but another half a turn is put on the head bolts.

You must check this though, do a search on here.

Ignore the torque figures they are for the CS.

Doesn't this depend on what type of gasket ? IIRC the later style multilayer metal gaskets are not re-torqued.

E D I T. Just checked, no re-torque for later 1.9 TD's that use the metal gasket. When I rebuilt a 1.6 a few years ago I used a metal gasket on that too, with no re-torque.

When I had my JX replaced approx. 5 year ago it needed the quarter turn and the valve clearances setting after 1000 km so I think it applies to the later engines as well.
It is important that the quarter turn is done in one smooth continuous movement and not done in steps.

Re tourque was omitted many years ago....don't need to do it....the early diesels used a allem headed bolt, the newer type with bi hex is ok left alone.
