Panel Thickness

Post by Vaniller »

Searched the wiki and can't find the answer.
Can anyone tell me the thickness odds the steel for
the body panels?
Need to let in some repairs to rusty windscreen and
Rear window corners.
Thanks very much

:rofl
dont loose sight of the fact that for a window rubber to seal it needs the repaired metal area to be the exact size/profile as the original, even then its not 100% but usually works well enough
andf lets have some pickies :D

Sound advice mm and kevtherev.
That's why i was fretting about the thickness. Otherwise i will end up
With loads of windscreen sealant having to go in as well.
Might have to get the micrometre out....
Did wonder about begging for offsets from repairs already completed.
I will post pics when i summon the courage to hack the van up.
Thanks both

Nice work. Hoping I don't find anything like that lurking beneath the windscreen rust bubbles...
Thankfully only on passenger side!

How did the seal fit afterwards? I guess that as MM was involved quality seals went on, but any need for windscreen sealer?
Or was it all in the grinding kevtherev?

I better open a photobucket account then as well.

Thanks

Right then,
here goes nothing.

Hope the Photobucket link works.
Bit of noob to this so might all go wrong (like my welding...).

Had the van for a year now. Long time in the wilderness after owning and having to give up a '72 Bay many years ago.
Not done much yet but some things need doing.
Done
Fuel tank dropped, cleaned out as full of silt and water. (Van kept cutting out). Repainted and refitted.
New breathers.
New fuel neck where water and silt was getting in.
D Pillar rot sorted.
Minor rewiring to get fridge and internal lights working.
Temporary repairs to awning and leaky windows involving gaffer tape....and an over cover made for the poptop.
To do
Top of the list is a new awning for the Super Viking poptop as it currently leaks.
Fix slider to stop back lock popping.
Relay fix for headlights so I can see at night.
Then rust around windows to deal with and make water tight.
A whack with the lowering stick.
Strip and clean trailing arms.
Thanks for all advice and help to date.
