JX Oil Filter Housing Gasket Replacement

Post by JonB »

Hi,

Going to attempt to replace the above gasket today but just wondering if anyone has any tips or lessons learnt from doing this.

Is it just a simple break down of filter, cooler, sensor, housing or am I going to find something difficult?

I've tried a number of searches but not found anything on here.

Thanks,
Jon

it is straightforward but you want decent tool for the three bolts, cheap allen key may damage the head without undoing them, then you'll need Irwins or chisel method

I'm assuming you've got a fresh o-ring for the top of the oil cooler as well as the flange/block gasket. IME leaks from the latter are much less common than the o-ring bit I guess you have your reasons. The turbo oil union can be a bit tricky on the turbo end depending on the degree of corrosion, but you may be able to get away with leaving it alone and just undo the end at the flange. PS. the TDI manual says to add a narrow bead of sealant around the flange/cooler o-ring.

Just done this, what these guys said. I put a bit of lock tight thread sealing compound (not locker) on the threads of turbo feed and sensor to rule out leaks there as well.

Yep did it at the weekend and was pretty straight forward. I did buy all the seals and also some dirko sealant. All went back together nicely and seemed to have cured the leak....although only had it idling at the moment so will need to take out for a drive.
