VW T3 Gearshift bushes

Post by tommin »

O i have purchased a set of bushes, or bits and bobs whatever they are called for the bottom of the gearshift stick up front. My question is even after reading the wiki's, can these parts be replaced without having to drop the whole gearshift front box?

On a different topic, the cold start dash switch (Knob) will not pull out, anyone have issues similar in past or what I should be looking for to remedy it.

I bought a new starter motor from ATP, will update if these cheap ones work out okay.
Regards and happy easter coming up for those that play that game

It's only 4 nuts to undo to drop the gate box off, and iirc you won't be able to do the job unless you do drop it.

As for the cold start, I don't know , I don't "do" diesels, but I do know they are fragile, as every diesel I g
Have been in its either not there or snapped off ......

Some people say that they find it easier to pull the cold start out as they crank the engine over.

I have just replaced the cable on mine - it's quite easy. Get a length of piano wire (this is what I used http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251231895124? ... 1439.l2649 ). You need to fold one end back on itself about 3mm. Undo the nipple on the lever at the pump, pull the cable through from the front. The end is held in the handle just by a press fit of the ferrule, prise it out and epoxy the new bent over one in, feed the new wire through and ensure that you pass the free end through the solderless nipple as soon as it emerges from the outer as you can't bend the wire if you push it all the way through.Adjust so that the handle is home when the lever is in the off position. Tighten your nipple! Job done.

My inner was damaged severely where it entered the outer due to previous owners ham-"interfered with" playing. The only thing is that the piano wire isn't stainless like the original. I couldn't find stainless thick enough to match the original in long enough length.
Where the handle screws/clips to it's shaft is very fragile so be prepared to replace/scheme alternative. I have just made a temporary handle from some of that Polymorph mouldable plastic. (like this stuff http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250g-Polymorp ... 27c23d6443 )
