hello all, still in the process of welding my 1980,s camper roof on, not being able to be grinding and cutting in the evening i'm trying to get some other jobs done without jacking the van up. I have a pit so can get under it ok, I need to replace the radius arm bushes on the front & the drop link bushes also, can i unbolt and remove the front radius arms from the axle & chasis without taking the weight of the vehicle?
cheers jim

Re: Front radius arms
radius arms are is not a clear definition .
do you mean the top or bottom arm or tie rod.
drop arm will be the anti roll bar?
you can do the anti roll bar without suppoting the vehicle allthe otheres need to be jacked / wheel off ect

Radius arm if it has the 3 bolts they will be seized tight,I ended up having to take the whole lower arm off to replace the bushes.

Likewise, my 3 outer bolts were seized, had to take the complete arm assembly off and drill the bolts out on the pillar drill at work

Re: Front radius arms
can the three bolts be 'slipped out' or taken out with the wheel on the deck taking the weight of the camper? sounds like a case for putting the new bolts in from the top so if it has to be done again just take the nuts off, is anything simple on these?
Thanks

Re: Front radius arms
No, because there's a 3rd piece of the puzzle in there too, the lower ball joint mounting block is also held in by these 3 pesky bolts.
If you are able to take them out, this ball joint mounting block may well pull out of the end of the arm, and there will be nowt left holding up the weight of the van......except for your head which would have been under there looking at what you were doing whilst taking these bolts out.
Seriously though, you should never contemplate unbolting any suspension parts whilst the system is still loaded up.
