Internal Corrosion of Engine?!?

Post by chuggers72 »

OK - So about 6 months ago I replaced the corroded water distribution pipe that runs around the engine bay with various hoses running off as mine was absolutely shot! I had one made up out of copper following a visit to a garage - problem is a I saw a thread (cant find it now!) that would suggest this could potentially be a major issue using copper as it could create some kind of positive / negative circuit in the engine resulting in internal corrosion. Bloke at the garage did not mention it could be a problem - Can anyone shed some light on this for me?!

It will be fine as long as you have the correct coolant mix.

I don't think it will be too much of a problem, as said above as long as it is submerged in the coolant which has inhibitors in it .
Copper is only one step worse than stainless steel in the galvanic table and aluminium is sacrificial to both in open air
