Underslung Waste Tanks

The Westy underslung tank from CAK IIRC is going to be the best part of a Ton, which might make sense If I was replacing an existing one, but its a lot of notes for a bit of plastic, espec when I can pick up the standard 25l plastic jerry things literally for free... Though a slimmer solution would be better...
So the question is... has anyone done (or considered) anything clever that they would like to share in terms of improvising an underslung waste tank. I can see that it will need to be well affixed So if someones already figured out what fits & done the hard work I'd love to copy them!!

You could use a caravan grey waste container, just slide it under your van when you want it.

Is it a removable one for £100? Bargain if so.
I love the grey tank on my LT - it means I can use the sink and shower where ever I am (including the works car park) without anyone knowing.
I didn't have one on my t25 and I got by fine, but having had one, I don't think I'll be going without one again.

Cheers Martin, but it would blow my cover in a stealth camp scenario, and rather than faff about putting it in and out of the van it seems to make more sense strapping it to the bottom semi-permanently. That jerry can is the kind of tank I had in mind though, i assumed that i wouldn't be the first with this particular hairbrained scheme...

Never did understand why anyone would want to carry dirty water around with them ?
I just moved my sink outlet to the middle of the van out of sight , it not like you are sending loads of potatoe peelings and stuff down there, it's only water, soapy at worst!

Hi,
My solution to stop carrying a dirty waste tank on board was to mount a small tank just in front of the rear wheel arch under the food cupboard, where the gas bottles used to live, in my autosleeper. Now run on lpg.
An underslung tank involved more work. Waste runs into tank, vent/overflow comes out in wheel arch. Tap mounted under tank so as can drain into collapsable water carrier kept for that purpose. Acces to tank (top) for cleaning is via lift up panel in food cupboard floor.
The biggest tank I could fit in was a 3 gall. one from CAK. That does the two of us for one night, that's two meals and morning washing plus drinks etc. Occasionally it will overflow.
Thats what I did and it works for us but it may not answer your problem.

I like your setup, but it wont work for me. Im keeping the floorplan similar to the original whitestar so the "Kitchen" is going to be very compact & clipped in to the jump seat mounts, waste has to go through the floor & just dumping it wherever (some of my fishing is done on a SSSI) simply isnt me, so I make life difficult for myself

im with steve, take a leaf from british rail drain under ityand its only soapy water and as we never use sites no issues there

You guys. I think it's quite normal not to want to leave a trail of toothpaste/rice/washing up suds etc under/around your van when parked in a public place.
When I didn't have one, I just didn't use the sink.
Still, I imagine most of you guys just drive the van to a campsite

We eat all the food, any left on the plate goes in the bin! The only thing coming it of my sink is soapy water, and I only camp on sites with 8090 other times solely wild !
Opening the waste tank tap when driving up the road from the campsite is no different is it?

one of the secrets of easy living is that we only use paper plates or styrene ones, plaggy t spoons for brewing up,
we have an oven so most food it baked and in foil trays,rice yep but maybe some are still in the dark ages and actually boil loose rice nah , boil in a bag, perfect every time and no rice in the sink
,cant think what else.
so all we wash up are a couple of bone china mugs and a few metal knives and a couple of wine glasses,
so any scraps go to the dog then the bin , zero washing up just nice soapy water,
oh and teeth in the van ,,,nah styrene cups and do this outside,
so maybe some posters like to make work for themselves and live like they do at home ? we take a different approach and clean the parking spot with fairy bubbles when we leave and the small rubbish bin we usually manage to find a supermarket bin for that, call it payback for the packaging they generate, and whilst on that subject ,when we do buy stuff from the likes of the big 5 then we usually unwrap and pack in the carpark and put all their rubbish in their carrier and leave it for them...
