Broken Gearstick
Snapped my gearstick off the other day, luckily I was only trying to reverse onto my driveway. No problem I thought I've got a couple of spare 2wd ones. But there different.
I'm now thinking, using a piece of rod or bolt and trying to tap the inside of the shaft and then screw them back together, possible weld around the join. Will it weld?
Any other better suggestions?
The wife and kids are expecting to go camping this weekend, so it's got to be fixed
thanks

Re: Broken Gearstick
Broke mine a couple of months ago, admittedly it had already been broken and welded prior to my ownership but that weld was poo.
Took it all off, ground down the old weld, straightened the rough edges, drilled a hole (6mm) above and below the join and made sure I could see the inserted rod.
Chamfered both the edges so when they met on the rod they formed a 'v'. Welded together then puddle welded into the holes.
I do have pics somewhere, if I find them I'll post them up if photobucket lets me!
I'm happy with the strength of the stick now but I am still looking for the mystical solid gear lever for a replacement for complete piece of mind.

Re: Broken Gearstick
£2-3 poker from any hardware shop with the end cut off and filed fits perfectly takes about 5mins max and lasts for years
oh and you have to name it something along the lines of joesephine, etc. All syncro owners should keep one in their van for that very moment and learn the creed
This is my poker. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My poker is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my poker is useless. Without my poker, I am useless.

Re: Broken Gearstick
I may lack some rescue equipment on board (Paul's eyes rolling) but when it comes to a broken gearstick . . . I do have and hold dear my poker, Esmeralda
She has been welcomed at many meets for fire poking but I would miss her greatly if she was to stray! Could we recognise our pokers in an identity parade, yes we could!! For a small price you too can join the parade

I'm putting my Syncro back together with a solid shaft so. I don't have to worry about it.

Re: Broken Gearstick
Like I say, not cheap.
http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/shop?page=s ... =gearlever" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
However we are the only company I know of making them, causing a but of a problem for us in the workshop without a decent supply so we are having them tabbed up locally in small batches hence the price.
Selling slowly but they were never going to fly off the shelf at that price.
We also have 4 speed but they aren't as complex so considerably cheaper.
