Not a lot of information to work with ladybird. What time of year are you going, as most camp sites in France are closed until 1 April? If you are over there before then you will need to ckeck carefully to find sites that are open all year round. They are few and far between.

You can take the motorway most of the way to Lyon which is quick or you can take the N and D roads if you are not in a hurry. With 4 kids in tow that is a two day drive across France from where I assume you will arrive in France. Tell us more and we can assist more.
:D

Young children will only stand so much 'interesting French countryside' and will have run out of DVDs/DS/iPod or whatever after a day ... Peage are there to eat up the miles but it's a LONG old road from Roscoff (?) across to Lyon with no direct motorways (600 miles ?).

Heading there on the 22nd july 2013 our plan is to tie the concert in with our holidays
leave the older kids to look after the younger ones,on a campsite.
or skip the whole project and mam and dad just go
fly to paris and fast train down to lyon
take the kids on holidays some were else

Agreed. A tip. Find campsites with play areas to stop at on the way. Swings, climbing frames and roundabouts help them to get some exercise and let off steam after being cooped up all day. Even dads and mums can enjoy a ride on a swing after a day of sitting down. This also gives you some quiet time for getting the evening meal ready.
:ok

When our 2 were younger we'd rest during the day, travel a couple of hours then when it went dark get them changed into their pyjams and let them sleep while we travelled. Also cooler to do that BUT be prepared to scrape the bugs off the front

i'd be taking at the very least 3 days to do roscoff - lyon area.

ask me how i know. :P

with kids i'd consider a week to be still too quick.

irrelevant comment @ralf,

easter monday is the first april this year so most campsites will be open at least a week before that.

train all the way. TGV stops in Lyon. u'll be there in less than 2 hours from the top of France. if you fly, fly to Saint Exupery (Lyon) Airport.
And for Rock n roll, go see AC/DC
