Ccolant in cab

Post by Dazco »

I've been getting a small pool of pink coolant settling on the rubber mat in the cab, will I be right in assuming that it will more than likely be a leek from the heater matrix or at very least the pipes supplying it.

Absolutely. There are flow and return rubber pipes that come up the centre of the dash to the heater matrix. You can see them in the following photo (in this case I've got them clamped off:

If I remember correctely, you may be able to wriggle into a position where you could shine a torch up to see - i.e. before removing the dash. You might have to remove the lower dash panel first. At least if you can you might be able to tell where it's coming from. I would have thought if from the matrix itself the water would collect in the bottom of the heater box though and would guess the pipe or clips failing.

started removing switch gear , stereo etc but too bloody cold and my leg is giving me some grief, Job abandoned till tomoro
Is it possible to start the engine with all the dash removed (might sound daft ) but just think it might give a better idea of what is leeking.
I would have to replace the dash pod, insulate any loose connections, think thats it. Any thoughts?
Just found this regarding stripping all the area out, motor runs fine so will be leaving well alone.

Cant think of any reason you couldnt fire it up without the dash.

Good luck sorting.

found some crud behind the matrix.
Image
The damp area is on the bottom of the matrix left hand side.
Image
Area highlighted in yellow is the damp bit .
Orange area is pink staining on the shield im presuming from the coolant.
I was hoping it was going to be a loose pipe clip

Which pipe is the feed into the matrix? I had the engine started and was hoping i would feal one pipe getting warm before the other but nope.

Taking the dash out etc wasnt made any easier with this

Is it possible to get radiators mended or is it just not economical?

Bad luck

I don't think (though someone may correct me) that it matters which way it goes in and out, so flow and return are reversible.

Radiators can be recored. The new ones are £135, so worth enquiring:

Would be worth ringing someone like this to ask.
