Roof space

Post by jonathonck »

Hi, I have a T25 tin top but with it only sleeping 2 I'm after making it a 3-4 berth for my 13 year old daughter to come away with us in the summer!
I was thinking of either getting the fibreglass type roof or a pop top.
I want to keep expenses down so, what is the best type to get, where I might purchase one and who does fitting in the north east and how much can I expect to pay for both purchasing one and fitting.
Cheers.

You can buy second hand, or you can buy new. You should be able find a second hand hi-top fairly easily, if you look on the usual sites (ebay, this site, brickyard, volkszone, etc). They come up fairly often and aren't that expensive (say £300-£500). But you'd have to fit it yourself (or pay someone to do it).
It's not so easy to find a complete second hand pop-top. Try a breaker (T25 Direct), otherwise just keep looking on those sites. MAke sure you get ALL the parts you need - some places will just cut the whole roof off, so you get everything, but have to take it apart yourself.
You can buy them both new. A pop-top is about £2000, plus more for the bed, but that's just to buy it - it costs more to get it fitted. Get a price from your local T25 specialist.
Might be less hassle to sell the van, and buy another.....

Sell the tin top and buy a roofed van, seems a shame to take the can opener to it, I've seen some horrors when that's done without experience
Or get a cab bunk for your daughter

HI Jonathon,
If you decide on a high top then "busfan1971" on here has got two, one Holdsworth and one leisuredrive (I think). You might also like to look up "Timber Technicians" who can fit a new one & make everything good if you've got the $$$$
But as kev has said, it might make more sense to trade vans if you're not DIY handy and are paying someone else to do it all...

Oh, and as your daughter is a teenager the extra space wont be needed for long - perhaps consider an awning instead!
