The wire to your oil pressure switch should have a voltage on it when ignition is on. It comes from the live feed at the dash via the warning light (at least on early vans - think the later ones might have warning buzzer or is that for temp?)
If you touch the oil pressure switch wire to an earth (eg the engine block) then the warning light should come on. The pressure switch should also complete the path to earth if there is no or low pressure (ie engine off) and again light comes on. Hopefully when running you have enough oil pressure to switch the circuit off so the light goes out.
