Lining a van

Post by lees »

Hi All
Just after a bit of advice regarding van lining, i have my 3mm plywood panels and fixing clips and my lining carpet should be here today just wondering what is the best way to go about this? and what other people have done.
Do i
fix the ply panels to the van and then cover them and the exposed metal bits covering everything in one go
or
cover the metal bits first then cover my ply panels seperate then fix them to the van
i plan to run some wires through before covering, also any tips on fitting the lining carpet
Cheers Lee

Idally...

1 - dinitrol/waxoyl the inside seams and pillar(provided that they are already clean/prepped)

2 - insulste with foil bubble insulation or alternative.

3 - put up a bit of a vapour barrier where the boards will go.

4 - put a couple of coats of varnish on the boards to protect them from damp and warping.

5 - fix boards in place.

6 - cover everything with lining carpet.

You'll need a helper.

If you know where you want the wires to go, do that first. Tape them to the back of the boards and make holes to poke them through. But mark on the front of the boards where the wires go so you don't put screws through them when you're fixing them to the van.

As for attaching the carpet, , you'll need high temperature contact adhesive spray.

Here's some pics of when I did mine.

Thanks for the quick reply
the glue is ordered with the lining carpet, i never thought about a vapour barrier but have a large roll of thin polythene in the garage which should do the job, i have the insulation but did not think about wax oil, just ordered 4 tins of Dinitrol. The seams and inside panels have had all rust removed and treated with vactan will also give the panels a couple of coats of varnish before fitting, will get some pics up when completed

Nice job James!

I've just insulated our sliding door and tailgate. Rather than stick It to the van I've applied it as a vapour barrier as well, like you've also appeared to do on the second photo. Belt and braces? Used aluminium tape to stick between braces and over the holes.

As our is lined already I don't want to tear stuff out, but I'll be doing under the cab rubber mats, and if we redo the floor, that too :)
