Heater - Does anybody have one of these?

Post by cleagarr »

The ebay link is here:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-DIESEL-HE ... 971627959?

I emailed the guy and he said he would include a timer and thermostat and offer free delivery for this price.

Does anybody have any experience with these?

I have an eberspacher D2 Airtronic (with stat and timer) that I am going to take out because I don't like the set up - the fuel is in a jerry can and my misses is petrified of it (I know, I know). If anyone is interested in mine let me know via pm.
All I ask is for the chance to prove that money won't make me happy.

I dont, but it looks the part. It does have a massive heat output compared to the usual suspects, and Id wonder about battery drain?
As you said, would be interesting to see one 'in the flesh' so to speak..

Is your van diesel or petrol?

If it's diesel, why not just plumb the eber into the fuel tank? That's got a separate cheesy-looking tank, so is really not that different to your current Eber.
If your van's petrol, why not just get a petrol heater instead of another diesel?

As said - run it off the vehicles fuel tank unless you are using veg oil in a diesel.

Am I reading the spec correctly, that says 70 Watts from the battery on 12 volts, that is nearly 6 amps

Probably on first startup, when the glow plug's trying to fire it from cold. The Westy original Eber B2L/D2L apparently takes 150w (petrol), 240w (diesel) maximum on startup - but then drops down to 15w in use.

That is normal running consumption - it drops to 50w on half heat.
As I said before 4.6/2.8Kw is a bit of overkill in a small van and then you have its enormous dimensions!

Yikes! So what's the initial draw?

Much as the older Webastos/Eberspachers I should think. I reckon they are Chinese clones of the old Webastos/Eberspachers like the Eberspacher D7L. I would expect the initial draw to be in the region of 10 - 12A.
The company was set up 07 Nov 2012 - not a long pedigree!
Some more info:

Arif Ayyub is currently 37 years old and first became a director 17 years ago at the age of 20. His most recent non-secretarial directorship is with Airstream Heaters Ltd where he holds the position of "Retailer".

Doesn't send out a healthy message when you look at his other directorships - his main income was derived from a newsagents! There are two dissolved companies and four current directorships held by him.
I would stay away personally. :)

You could buy a D1LC with all the exhaust/&inlet pipes and a stat for around that, or cheaper..
Won't be new, but I'd trust it more

He already has a better heater - Airtronic D2!

The easiest solution would be to strap a small tank underneath if you are using dissimilar fuels.
Without that crucial info. we are stabbing in the dark as usual!

It does sound a bit dodgy doesn't it?

She's a petrol van so can't tap into the tank. I think one of the problems with the setup is that the fuel leaks a bit through the screw cap (not sure whether through the lid/neck of the tank or where the fuel pipe comes out of it). As a result she smells a bit like a BR train.

I've been trying to fire the heater up all afternoon and am greeted with the F52 message - the same as I was getting a few weeks ago! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrg

Would someone mind looking at the pictures on the link below and giving some views on it - does it look safe (to reassure the misses), does it look like it will be effective at delivering the fuel properly?

Thanks for the responses.
