JX to AAZ conversion

Post by torchy »

I've just had this done and definetly worth it!. The garage who did the job swaped the AAZ pump with the JX....why? Why can't you continue to use an AAZ pump on an AAZ engine in a T3 conversion??

Injector pump I assume? Some AAZ have extra wires...that's one reason...also some won't clear the engin lid and have to modded for the fuel lever..but the AAZ pump is generally a better bet...get it back and fit it I say.

the original pump for the AAZ is better, because it has smoother LDA, but the JX pump will do, especially with some tweaking on the fuel quantity
(the LDA manages the extra fuel on turbo load)

Thanks for the feedback everyone, it's what I thought, It's in THE DOKA so engine lid is not an issue. The truck is going well although smokes a bit on start up, think I'll take the advice and make sure I get my AAZ pump back and refit it.

On another issue.....the turbo sounds like a police siren following behind at times, anyone know what that can be?. It's a recon I got for the JX and I remember it howled a bit then before the engine died and now it's doing it on this AAZ. Any ideas welcome.

So hang on a second here! Does this mean that the perfectly functioning JX pump in my shed will work on my AAZ engine instead of having to get the AAZ pump reconditioned??

@Torchy whistly nosie is probably the blow off valve if you have used the JX manifold, the plastic bit on the end, they can be opened and 'fixed' - there's loads of posts about them
I have a JX inlet manifold complete with the valve in the box of diesel rubbish still I think, though I did weigh a lot of it in, and sent a load of it down to Neil axeman

the box is still sitting on a shelf in the garage if needed i can look through it and see if the valve is in there.

Thanks for that, I just checked today and unfortunatly it's not blowing. Pity I thought that was a good idea, alas no. The siren noise is getting less though. Only particularly noisy on load when it's cold and it smokes on start up when cold too. Passed it's emision tests for the MOT today though.
Back to speculating.
