Hi,
any top tips for prising out the flywheel oil seal. I searched previous posts and one of them talks about 'popping out the seal'. Mine isn't popping anywhere - more like a permanent fixture,
any suggestions very gratefully received,
Zeb

What engine? A screwdriver should do it but they can be stuck...if all else fails take the plate off rather than risk scratching the crank.

If it is a modern 1.9 diesel you may have an 'all in one' seal and plate - my caddy engine did but just swapped it for the old CS plate so that I didn't have to pay megabucks for a renewal.

I fitted one this week, just levered the old one out with a screwdriver, making sure not to damage the crank. The part of the seal that contacts the case had bonded its self and seemed in my case to be why it was a bummer to remove!

Machinemart do a great little tool, aptly called an oil seal remover - under a tenner and damned useful. Its basically a flat piece of metal made into a hook, with a handle. Often a lot quicker and much less faffing than a screwdriver - takes seconds. Great for gearbox shaft seal too.

Re: re: flywheel oil seal
sorted - the rubber part of the seal had welded itself to the metal - had to dismember it - thanks to all who gave advice
