Well after a bit of leak investigation and a go with Captain Tolley I think my window seals are all good. I definitely don't think the sealant around the high top is. It's looking pretty sparse in places and non existent in others. So the plan is to get stuck in to sorting it out, together with the roof vent which I also think is leaking, as soon as possible as I've nowhere to store it out of the elements.
My question is how many tubes of sikaflex am I likely to need please? I don't want to over order as know it has a best before date. Also any advice and recommendations would be very gratefully received. This is not something I have ever tackled before and hope I don't uncover some horrors like I've seen on some ....
Wish me luck and if you could all do a few sun dances that would be fab. Thanks in hopeful anticipation

I stripped out all the old sealer around my roof a couple of months ago. I managed to put a decent bead of frame sealer down both sides using only one tube. It depends how thick you want to slop it on. According to Sikaflex "Typical coverage 10m per 310ml cartridge (5x5mm joint). "
2ltr Aircooled CU with twin Solex's & originally a 009 dizzie, but now back to standard.

Thanks! I had visions of needing a lorry load though thinking about it why would I ?? Silly me .... Any advice having done it before? Once I clean out the old sealant (which looks like it will be easy as most of it is just sitting unattached in the gutters) what's the best thing to clean it with before applying new?

And when you got all the old carp out , will you post a decent picky or two of the areas, also bear in mind that its very easy to apply but not so to remove, the work ive had to do on some vans removing this stuff ptior to permanent fixing

Will do Mike, on both counts It definitely needs to be done though as I'm currently undertaking a mission in leak management which was starting to be a little irritating until I took her for a ride to the seaside and that put the smile back on my face....
Just waiting for the sikaflex to be delivered now and have purchased myself a heavy duty gun thing for it and then I'll be good to get stuck in!!

Speaking of which, anybody got any thoughts on whether it's worth removing the tailgate to re-seal the rear edge of a Westy hightop, or just work around the hinges and through the little gap?
If it's worth doing, presumably just press the pins through, or do the hinges need unbolting then re-align on refitting?
well if you reckon you can get to it with the gate on then go for it.
if you remove the gate then loosen and remove a screw, lube it and refit securely .then repeat with the other 3 , iof your luck and they all come out then whip it off, heavy mindst you but realignment is easy as for a start there will be marks left from its previous position

Hi Adrian,
Just wondering if this has sorted your problem,
I am thinking of doing this because my sealant around my roof looks like porridge and looks porous ,is it an easy job and how many tubes did you end up using.
Thanks dazz

well I can bond a whole hitop on with a tube and a half, if that helps. If you are only removing old crud then try to get under the tops lip as you really need to get adhesion under it as well as a 'little' along the outer edge
