Local metal scrap merchants, often weighbridge readout in window, drive in, stop on weighbridge, read weight, and drive out again. Subtract your weight. Or ministry heavy vehicle plating centre.

I think your MOT man may be a tad confused.
You need the GVW, or Gross Vehicle Weight for the MOT, which is the 3rd largest figure on the plate on the right hand cab step.
All it is, is that he's probably unsure if he should test it or not, class IV tests only go upto 3 tonnes, between 3 and 3.5 tonnes it's a class VII test.
If your plate is missing, oh dear.
But, saying that, if it's not used for commercial purposes anymore in theory you shouldn't need it. If it's a Caravelle or Bus then it's basically a passenger car, if it's a camper I suppose it is too.
I dunno if they have changed it but you only had to mark the weight down if it was a commercial vehicle.
Unless he is concerned about the brake efficiencies? and he needs the weight to work out the efficiencies? but the computer does that anyway..
