Post by scitter »

I just dropped my gearbox. Its a AAN and i think ive heard somewhere that this box should be better from an ofroad point of view.

Aan is std 4.86 and not the best for off roading. Add a 0.78 4th gear from a diesel box and you've got a budget TDI box. Aidan Talbot is you're man for anything gearbox related.

there is a plastic? might be rubberhose coming out of the gearbox in this pic. Im guessing its for the venting around the gastank but im just not sure.
It just kinda came down with the box when i took it out..

Anyone who can beyonde a doubt tell me what the hose is for and what its made of?

It's the breather hose. Make sure its not blocked and when it goes back in it rests in the rear if the engine bay

Looks like the mounting lugs have broken off and been re made...could it of been from a burnt out van at some point and suffered fire damage?

Odd looking repairs, guess inside will reveal more secrets...

Hi,
Seen this kind of repairs in Sweden before.
It's probably just been taken out in a scrapyard and there they want to take out by grinding the bolts and damaged the carrier.

might be that syncro4wd is right.. Dont think its been on fire since the casing isnt melted but repaired with plasticpadding.
The box did function before som im not going ti dismantle it..
Ive decided that instead of buying alot of parts im not gonna use later ill just ride with what i got untill ive saved enough money to change the finaldrive to something more suiting with the larger wheels.

So for now the only reps ill do is the brakes, rust above and around tank, engine and gearbox and ofc the conversion
