Electrical Ignition problem, could be switch

Post by Mash »

Thats what I get for being nice to the van, take it to Syncronutz, get it serviced, bleed brakes coolant etc. I even wash+waxed it prior to its impending respray and I get repaid with a dead van.

1.9 DG. When you turn the ignition on the dash lights show then the whoele thing goes dead, like a blown fuse. Checked the fuse box and all is well. If you leave the van for a half hour it will do the same thing.

I took off the connector attached to the ignition switch to check the voltage.

When the van is first started there is 12.2V across the connector. Once it dies there is between 7 and 5V.

The main vehicle battery is fine and holding a steady voltage, I'm not sure if the ignition switch is shorting something in the dash.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks

this may sound stupid.. but bare with me..
Check your battery connections are clean and op properly, i "created" a similar fault when moving my bus, I just dropped the connections on the terminals and didnt pay too much attention, it strid to start then dropped dead... then nothing it was the poor connection.

Thanks, I've had a play about with the ignition relay, but there is only 7V getting to it. There must be a bad connection between the battery and the fusebox.
