I was driving my 1990 2.1 petrol Caravelle yesterday when it coughed and spluttered for a couple of seconds. I pulled over, turned the engine off and then started it again. It started first time, but when i accelerated i noticed a distinct lack of power and a low level vibrating/judder. I was still a couple of hours away from home with some serious hills to climb (central Gran Canaria).
On the drive home it didn't worsen or improve, but it did struggle with the hills - i had to engage first for some of the hills i would normally climb in second.
It's not easy to find a mechanic who's familiar with VWs here in Gran Canaria. The mechanic i described the symptoms to this morning took a sharp intake of breath before saying he would have a look at it - maAƒÂ±ana,
of course.
I recently changed the plugs and fuel filter.
Could it be the injectors?
Thanks in advance.
Alan
