T3 Alternator problem??

Post by markhale10 »

Hi,
I am looking for some technical assistance. A couple of weeks back on our return journey in our 1987 T25 1.9 petrol, the battery light came on, dim at first, then bright. It was daylight and we got home okay.

I ordered and fitted a new voltage regulator which fits onto the Bosch alternator and bingo, the light went out. I took the van a short run and all was well. Yesterday we went for a long run in the van and the battery light has come back on.

The battery sits about 12v idle, and drops once started and all lights, fan on etc. It now starts but really struggles. Do I have a faulty regulator or does it seem likely the whole alternator is gone?

Thanks for any assistance,
Mark

Just give the belt a quick check for tension and the wiring on the back of the alternator for breaks/corrosion but if these are OK then I agree with Kev and an exchange alternator is on the cards.
