clutch slave cylinder off the mounting. i am going to try and put the cylinder in boiling hot water to get the flexi pipe to expand on the union fluted bulbs so i can pull it off and replace with a new union and sling the old cylinder with the seized union still inside it. :D

Watch the hard pipe, any marginal rusty bits will probably give way if you waggle it too much.

this seems to be the difference, i don't have a hard pipe, it's a flexi fabricated at some point with a non standard union.

Early system have a rubber flexy hose from the chasis rail up to a bracket mounted to the gearbox itself and a kunifer pipe from there to the slave cylinder. Late systems have a translucent (opaque) plastic pipe all the way from the chassis to the slave. All these parts were obsolete from VW and Brickwerks have had replacement parts manufactured.

When you say non standard union, it is different to the diameter of the brake pipe unions if that what you mean, that is correct it is how they left the factory. Or non-standard in some other way?

The brick werks kit is some braided stainless stuff.

Bob I believe our friend means the 10mm x 1mm male nut to 8mm(?) hose tail fitting which is in the cylinder end of the plastic late type pipe.

thanks, that is correct. 10mm x 1mm one end of union into cylinder to some petcock style plug in a bit of flexi pipe on the other end.

I need a union
I’m holding out for a union ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight...!
