240v to my fridge has stopped working

Post by New Kentish Campers »

The 240v input to my fridge has packed up :(

It still works fine on 12v and gas though. The wiki mentions an element, but the link to the site that sells them doesn't seem to work, but wouldd it be the element that I need, particularly as the 12v works perfectly?

The mains fuses are all ok, nothing trips when its selected to 240v etc. Any ideas as to where/what I need to check would be great, thank you.

It's going to be one of three/four things

1. The element has gone open circuit or
2. The thermostat's not closing to complete the circuit or
3. The wiring to the fridge from the circuit breaker's gone open circuit or (if applicable)
4. The fuse in the plugtop has gone open circuit - not relevant if your fridge is directly wired rather than plugged into a socket.
This is based on the assumption that your hook up itself is working of course

Do you have an electrical multimeter and do you know how to use it?

Yes, I'm used to using a multimeter so will take a look at these pointers, thank you. The fridge isn't on a plug socket, it's wired directly & the hook-up connection is fine too as I recently used it & thats when I noticed the fridge had packed up.

I'll check that theres power to the fridge for starters and then take it from there. I'd not thought of the thermostat though, so I'll certainly look at that too.

Thanks again :ok
