Tailgate seal

Post by Cableguy »

Hi all, just fitted a new tailgate seal from vw heritage. Looks really good, fits well. But the tailgate now won't shut properly. I've adjusted the striker so it shuts, but it just looks wrong. Door is nowhere near. Any suggestions?
Thought heritage would be the best. The seal is just too bulky if you know what I mean

That smaller round section inside another larger round section is just at the actual join isn't it? My original has that too at one end, Other than that they look almost the same except the centre solid section looks slightly thicker....is that enough to hold the tailgate proud of the van?

Cheers mike :ok
I agree it looks ok when comparing, but you have to really slam it to shut.
Have adjusted the catch too, just doesn't look right whenn tailgate is closed

the profile of the main rubber roll is incorrect , also no doubt the composition of the rubber/sponge.
yesthe round bit is just to effect the connection

Just checked my seal and it is the same profile as the one you removed. I bought it from schofields about 5 years ago....£39 as opposed to £64 too 8)

Not the best pic

Great, cheers for that. One thing I have to confess though, is that I got it from Schofields. I got my windscreen seal from Heritage. Haven't had time to ring them about sending it back(I've also cut it size).
So is heritage the only other alternative?

Sounds silly but are you sure the seal is fully pushed into the slot? Have you tried tapping to with a mallet all around?

Cheers Lloyd, will have a butchers. :ok
Cruz, I did give it a bit of a tap with A rubber mallet. I'm a bit miffed that even a simple job has turned out to be a bit tricky to sort

Ordered one from status vw.

Hope the bugger fits.
