Steering wheel creaks
HI ladies and gents when i turn the steering wheel at slow speeds ie reversing round out of drive and doing 3 point turn etc there is a horrible creaking noise like an old oak door in a haunted house. almost like a BBC sound effect going on. More pronounced when driving from cold.
Any advice as to what to look for gratefully received.
Definitely sounds like its inside the cab and near the top of the steering wheel shaft but not 100 percent.
Cheers
Dave

Re: Steering wheel creaks
I have another annoying intermittent noise like a strand of wire scraping on metal. Have an idea it may be the speedo cable.

That link doesn't seem to work anymore. Does anyone have any idea how I could find it?

Re: Steering wheel creaks
Pull the steering wheel (making sure that it is in it's straight ahead position) get a rag and some white spirit, wipe around the brass horn ring and sprung contact.
Personally I would bend the sprung contact ever so slightly (don't go mad) so it touches in a different place (the sprung contact is normally fairly worn, so this helps to change the contact point)
Once everything is clean apply a thing film of vasoline on the contact ring and refit the steering wheel..done.
