doka sized gate pins/hinges

Post by xriss »

any tips tricks... for removal of siezed gate pins apart from direct heat to free off i was thinking of drilling through the pin to get some rotation on them or welding a tool on the end of pin to get the things moving...ive been feeding them plus gas for a few days but getting the lube where it needs to be is proving hard with only capiliry action and virtiually no penitration....if need be it will be out with the mapp gas and copper hammer n punch...just thouhgt some of yah might have an alternitve to brute force and butchering :)..cheers all

make a cut the length of the sleeve with a thin cutting disk then open up the cut a bit with a flat head screwdriver, you should now be able to tap the pin out with reative ease, when your finished just weld up the cut again, if you try and beat out the pins without cutting then you will just end up deforming the hinges and the side of the doka.
:ok

i wonder if a hammer drill would work? one where you can turn off the rotary action.
you could sacrifice an old drill bit of the right size if it is an sds or just stick the correct size punch into a normal chuck.

Just done this job on our doka rebuild. Bloody tight little buggers but air chisel got them in the end. Now to find a rear 1/4 panel for less than a fiver. :(
