MOT - But where?

Post by DaveandMarion »

Ok, so after a lot of work we're ready to MOT the van for the first time.

Went along to our local, friendly, large, fully equipped garage on the way home from work today to book it. When I tell them it's a T25 camper and that it's a hightop he says that chances are they won't be able to MOT it (I presume because of the height issue) - he asks how heavy it is (I don't know off the top of my head at the time) and says that it'll probably be a class IV and so gives me the details of a commercial garage up the road.

Really? :|

Many people use the council approved places, those that MOT council vehicles and goods vehicles. They dont have any vested interest in ripping you off, and are sensibly priced too. Can only speak highly of the one near me. Worth a try....

The one time I used a council depot, I swore blind never again. They didn't really want me in their way, and they certainly didn't want to issue a pass, despite the car being absolutely bob-on.

As far as Class IV - well, yes - that's the normal car class. Which is where a T25 (2.5t GVW) falls, even if it's registered/fitted as a van rather than a camper.

D'you know any local old-car people? If so, have a chat with them, and find out who the local odd-stuff-friendly tester is. Worth their weight in gold, they are.

Thanks for your useful comments.

I guess the problem with my regular garage was down to the fact they didn't have the van there to see it so just assumed 'Commercial' and their ramps etc might not have been capable. I think though mainly it was down to the potential height issue.

We remembered last night we have a neighbour down the the road with a high top T25 so will be knocking on their door tonight to find out where they take it :ok

Have always used the Council depot in Luton. Really honest guys, fair assessment and will always give oyu a chance to try to put things right there and then if you can.

Hi all,

Finally got sorted today. Well, MOT last Friday and failed on something silly (thread here - https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=108999" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )

Off camping near Devizes, Wiltshire Friday - Sun to celebrate.

If anyone's near Dilton Marsh (West Wiltshire on the Somerset/Wilts border) I would highly recommend Dilton Motors ( http://diltonmotors.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) I only have good things to say about them from my experience. They have 1 MOT tester and he's VW friendly - he owns a T25.

Dave
