Suggestions for an electric or gas heater please

Things are getting a bit nippy hey! I want to get a heater for my etrol T2, so clearly a diesel heater is out of the question. Any suggestions on effctive yet still economical to run heaters, ideally gas, as I wont always shave hook up

These are the jobbys , you can get cheaper by shopping around but this is what you want -- a propex

get a derv ebber and fit a tank, or a Propex, both cost £200 plus unless you find a bargain

Why o why o why don't you petrol heads fit petrol heaters, why bother with adding tanks and using diesel? The running cost is comparable given the price of diesel today. People seem to lose sight of the fact that there are petrol equivalents of the diesel heaters - both Webastos and Eberspachers.

They are rarer but that is because the majority of second hand ones come from commercial vehicles. Due to to this they tend to command higher prices if there are several people after one on Ebay at the same time but I have seen them go unsold also. Brand new webasto airtop 2000st petrol kit on Ebay for £685 at the moment which is a good price. I get between £200 and £300 for a converted 24v airtop 2000 diesel usually. HERE

I used to be able to claim back the duty on petrol used in a fishing boat!! I wonder if it is still possible for off road use.

Thanks all will get googling and youtubing. Im pretty sure you can claim back vat on off road petrol, will check with some forester mates though.

I got one and had it fitted last year and it works a treat. They are a bit noisy though to be honest. I'd rather then noise than freezing my bits off though

It's probably also worth pointing out that having a heating system running off an existing fuel source, namely petrol or diesel, means considerably cheaper running costs (propane/butane bottles work out very expensive for the amount of gas they contain). Another benefit is more from not having a seperate gas bottle.
The third benefit is the potential to run the heating for longer (systems running off a seperate bottle will be restricted to it's capacity) the chances of 'running out' of gas are much higher than running out of diesel or petrol (because your fuel tank capacity is vast compared to a gas bottle), leaving you without heating altogether.
Ask the syncro guys who often camp 'off the grid' for long periods....filling up your fuel tank is much easier than locating a 'gas supplier' selling your particular bottle type.
However...the major benefit of a gas/Propex system does appear to be the price...
