svda electronic distributor - no spark

Post by avant-garde »

Hi, I've just bought a new electronic SVDA distributor and coil for my 1982 T25 CU 2.0 as I was running the 009 points dizzy before and I wanted to upgrade.

In a nut shell I have no spark when turning over.

I also don't have any idle stabilising unit - Do I need one of these units to make the new electronic dizzy work?

I've had to put the old 009 back in for now. :(

Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated - as always. :ok

I'm pretty sure I have an 2.0 CU from a bay camper if that helps. And with solid tappets.

Okay,

One more question, Do I also need an 'Ignition module' in order for the electronic dizzy to work. I don't think I have one and I'm thinking that that may be the reason why my new dizzy is doing nothing.
No spark or anything.

I put back the 009 dizzy and the engine starts.

I have no idea what is what any more. I have no idle stabilisation unit and I think I am missing the ignition module.

Cheers,
Kevin.

Depends on what type of electronic ignition it is fitted with.

Looking at the specs, I think the powerspark dizzy has a ignition module built in.
However I think you may have bought their standard dizzy for use with coils having a resistance greater than 1.5 ohms
and their sports coil having a resistance less than 1.5 ohms.

My knowledge of early ignition systems is a bit limited, but I dont think the 009 was original, so has someone fitted a coil with a balast resistor? Did you remove one?

Good luck.
