fig 8 awning strips ?

Awaiting the arrival of a Reimo Tourmobil 5 awning (secondhand) and need to know if/how the figure of 8 strips attach it to the gutter of my t25 hightop. Anyone got any pictures of it in action ?? Thanks

I have tried these contraptions with no luck,,one side threads onto a bead on the awning and the other side clips onto the van guttering,to me it is very hit and miss and soon came off in a breeze. On my awning there is a pocket to thread a pole though and this fixes to the guttering with JS clips,no problems with that method at all.

The strip relies on a degree of tension,when there's none it can flap about and fall off. Our 'J' rail is about 5 inches above the gutter on the hi-top and was positioned to suit our Khyam Motordome. You clip it on from above,or slide it on from the side, it's never come off (yet).

ah ducks, i had to fix a rail to the side of my poptop roofbase,and got the piece from our local camping supplier for about £3,a handfull of screws and some sealer and your away....................

Ive used fig 8s on frame and tunnel awnings , bith in high winds and find the design means the windier , ie tighter it becomes, the more secure it is. I prefer them to the pole method, I have a pop top though, but I assume the gutter is in the same place.

I think perhaps, reading the posts, my gutter is a different shape,where the high top has been sealed it has made the gutter a lot shallower and unable to grip the 8 sect with any effect.

Yep had the same problem with the gutter being full of sealentm options are:

Sucker Clamps - I tried the JK ones and have now sent them back as they would just not work for me.

Fix some J-Rail to hightop - Thought about doing this but for now my other solution below works for me.

I use the pole and three clamps but it is not 100% secure so i also thread a thing cord (same as guy rope) through the pockets with the pole and this is long enough to go right round the top where I join the two ends together with a length of bungee to provide a bit of flexible tension. seems to work a treat.

Do the figure of 8s only og on one way on a T3? I've just got some and my friend borowed her dads bongo and they only go one way on it.

I find the clamps work fine for me,but I did bend the bottom bit straighter to fit under the gutter better and stuck the rubber pieces on to the clamps so it is eaiser to fit.

That's a good idea, off to find me rubber glue. Got to make them less fidly.

This question of gutter height (OK then gutter lip height) was talked about quite a while ago, at the time I noticed that on 83> models the gutter lip was made slightly smaller. Check it for yourself the next time you come across an early van.

You will also find if your van has the smaller gutter lip even with the figure 8 strips connected they will leak water just where you don't need it when the awning is erected and the door is open,,,,

So with this I mind I am currently trying to find an alternative fix for this problem,,,,,,when I find it I'll let you all know.

Water is still also a problem for us, we use the pole and can just about get it clamped on but we then have a drip right above the sliding door, so every time you open the door you get a small puddle in the van as the gutter can no longer do its job as its full of the ruddy pole.

Could do with some form of clamp that you put on each end of the gutter and then the pole clamps to that sitting above the gutter so the gutter can still work???
