gearbox probs HELP!!

Hi just purchased a 1983 T25 its a 4 speed and the gearbox seems to be loud it drives ok and pulls off ok without any problems could someone tell me if this is a comon fault and is it poss to adapt a 5 speed someone said it could be the rear bearings worn but would they make a loud noise like that???

Try to describe the noise more, "loud" is rather difficult to diagnose. Does it clonk, whirr, whine, rumble?

It's more of whining noise but it's not all thE time it's more at round 20 mph ish
