20v turbo engine

Post by dode »

Does anyone know if I can put a td sump and oil pump onto a 20v turbo engine? If so do I need to use a transverse one from a golf ect or a longitudinal one from a passat or an A4?
I have a T25 with a golf 16v in it but its getting tired and I want to go the efi turbo route. Any advice will be greatfully received. Thank you.

Have a search on thesamba and brickyard. I'm sure the early ones fit (presume you mean the 1.8T?) The jx sump

WHS^

early ones do, fatboy is selling a whole T+T car for sensible money with 'right' engine block IIRC to fit your sump.

APU passat has the correct shape to take the JX sump, the easy way to tell is some passat and A4s have an exturnal water pump, run by the fan belt, the others have the water pump run by the timing belt, the exturnal water pump engines will take the JX sump

Thanks guys. Would any of you know what engine codes would suit or what cars would suit. Also has it been done before with the engine at 50 degrees and are there any pitfalls? It seems to be a common convertion in the US but they all run them at the original angle using gearbox adapter plates.

That's because they don't do diesels so therefore don't have access to piles of unwanted jx parts to do the 15 install. The Kennedy adaotors they use are really good. Upright install means you can pretty much use the donor engine stick with no bits to bodge/swap out. Does mean a raised lid though. Mine has an SA one fitted.

I originally wanted to use an Audi V8 or V6 but the SA bellhousing would cost more than a full 1.8t conversion and the 1.8t is easier to fit LPG to.

I've got a 2.6 V6 Audi engine complete if your interested mate, cheaper than buying a 20v turbo engine

The main problem with the V6 is the cost of the bellhousing. I already have most of the bits to fit the 1.8t

i *think* it is was Madmatt or rob m on t'yard who came up with a 228 clutch solution that would take the V6 torque/bhp :ok

I know of someone who has a V6 loom/ECU as removed from a sprint car so has already been stripped of all the cra7 not needed and has wiring just about ready to plug and play (although not for a T3 but at least worst bit is done!) :ok
