Hi guys,
I want to return my engine ignition system to stock as i'm running the stock carbs with a 009 dizzy at the min and i know they're pants.
What bits do i need?
Is it just a vac advance dizzy and the ECU box bit on the left side of the engine bay? I've still got the original ECU box fitted in the engine bay but it was for the 1.6 CT engine. Will that work with my CU engine?

The ignition unit you've got will work fine, essentially it's a super fast acting electronic relay.
The Hall sensor isn't capable of switching the level of current the coil needs, so the ignition unit has a hefty electronic switch, (a thyristor), that can handle the current and that turns on and off according to the signal from the Hall sensor.
You'll need a suitable coil too, the one that suits points won't suit the electronic system.
If you have the idle stabiliser, (the other box on the left of the engine bay, with two round three-pin connectors on it), I'd initially not use it as they can do strange things when failing - which they inevitably do. If you don't have one it won't matter - since the two I've got failed I haven't bothered trying to find a working one, as long as the engine is in good tune the slight fluctuations in idle speed won't matter at all, and that's if you even notice it.

I got these boxes left over from when i had 1.6 CT engine.
The one on the right is the ignition unit and the one on the left is the idle stabiliser? What's a hall sensor?

Better see if I can find the wiring for these boxes!

Hall sensor is the pickup in the distributor, it's an electronic part that triggers the system to make the sparks at the appropriate time, but is itself unable the handle the high current the coil needs. The Hall sensor's pulses are used to trigger an electronic switch that is capable of such current, that's the ignition unit which is essentially a super fast acting no moving part relay.
Our vans have electronic ignition in only the most vestigial manner, there's no clever system containing a map of timing settings, all the timing decisions are made mechanically, partly by centrifugal force causing weights to move and turn the rotor shaft relative to the pickup, (engine speed sensitive), and partly by the varying vacuum in the inlet manifold acting on diaphragms that move the pickup relative to the shaft, (engine load sensitive), the electronic part is solely switching on and off the coil current which was previously done mechanically by a switch - the points.
